David Brockman
David Brockman watched his mother suffer through Hodgkin’s disease at ten years old. Additionally, his beloved grandfather “Poppi” also passed away from stomach cancer while David was in his early twenties. After watching two of the most influential people in his life suffer from the evil effects of cancer, this horrible disease has left its mark on David’s heart.
His high school education at Saint Joseph’s in Metuchen taught him to help others, get involved and give to his community. He has volunteered his time as a coach for various youth sports programs over the last twenty years and currently serves on his local board of education.
He has known Sherrie and Jodi for many years as his aunt, uncle and cousins used to live on the same street in Franklin Park. Dave remembers snow mobile parties at the Sivco’s house many years ago.
After the tragic the loss of Brady, Jodi suggested they organize a 5K race to honor Brady for Sherrie and Mike. It seemed like an excellent idea and they hit the ground running. Not only would the 5K keep the memory of Brady alive, but it would be an excellent way to help support pediatric cancer research. Five years later, Tom, Jodi, Sherrie, Mike and a few others continue to organize the annual event.
Watching his mom go through chemotherapy left vivid memories of the ills that cancer puts a body through. No innocent child should have to go through such suffering. These memories continue to motivate David to donate his time in hopes that the money raised at the 5K will help to find a cure for pediatric cancer…maybe even all cancers.
Miss you Poppi!!
