“Let’s face it, there are so many worthy nonprofits that it becomes a challenge to decide which one (or one’s) to contribute to. From my perspective, the cause itself has to be one of such an insidious nature, that it demands assistance. Then I look at the nonprofit itself. Do they comply with nonprofit regulations? Is it mostly volunteers? Does most, if not all, of the donated funds go to the research and the eradication of their core mission. Or, does it go to staff and brick & mortar costs? What are their accomplishments? Who makes up the Board of Directors? Do they have a local presence to me?
The Hugs for Brady Foundation, upon close scrutiny, definitely satisfies the criteria I have established in determining whether or not a nonprofit is worthy of my time and donations. They are a local group committed to the abolishment of pediatric cancer. They literally have hundreds of volunteers dedicating their time and efforts for them. The Board is very involved and is at every function and event they sponsor- which are quite a few. They in turn have donated equipment and money to our local medical facilities. And, they have a community that has completely embraced them.
You can see, it’s easy for me, and anyone else, to be involved with this great team as they work towards the extinction of pediatric cancer, and in the mean time, what they are doing to allow children to be children despite their unspeakable hardships..”
